20 Christmas Bible Verses That Will Recenter Your Heart {PLUS A Christmas Prayer}

Keeping Christmas Bible verses on repeat is a way to recenter your mind, heart, and soul on what is important and what gives meaning to this special holiday. We can’t completely avoid all the hustle and bustle since there is much to accomplish in a limited amount of time. But we can find peace in the middle of the chaos and find much joy in the sights and sounds of Christmas.

Do you overcommit, and then find yourself stressed and overwhelmed?

Stress sends us into a vicious cycle. It causes us to toss and turn at night which sends us into an even deeper feeling of overwhelm. Then we may even struggle with feeling like we just aren’t doing it all well enough … like our value is all tied up with how much and how “well” we do Christmas! It steals our peace and joy during this wonderful time of year.

So, how do we avoid this cycle and not lose the season’s beauty? How do we hold onto peace? And if we’ve already gone off the rails, how do we get recentered at Christmas?

Our family has had years of both scenarios. Years where the season seemed to pass me by as I spent more time stressed than joyful. But as we grow we are finding our way and discovering our best yes’s and strategies for making the most of our Christmas season.

We’ve learned that there are 7 critical components to keeping our hearts centered at Christmas:

  1. Ward off FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Don’t make choices based on FOMO. Make realistic choices for you and your family. The things that matter most to you should take priority.
  2. Set boundaries with friends, family, and even those cute little ones who have the magic of Christmas shining in their eyes. If it is not healthy for you or your family, don’t do it.
  3. Let go of perfection. The teacher’s gifts do not HAVE to be homemade and beautiful. (Teachers love gift cards, by the way!)
  4. Weigh every commitment. Some years you can do certain things. However, in other years, the kids may be sick, or a unique situation arises which makes it impossible.
  5. Pick special traditions for your family (but not too many!). Children love tradition. It brings a sense of safety and comfort to their lives. The simplest of traditions, like hot cocoa with lots of marshmallows while watching Frosty the Snowman each year, means more than we can often understand.
  6. Not only remember Jesus but keep your focus on Him and the true reason for Christmas. Bring your conversations back to Him throughout the season (and all year long!). Read from the Word of God every day. Read Christmas Bible verses to your children. Encourage your children to memorize them.
  7. Pray individually and together as a family. And pray Christmas Bible verses. Know that God gave you these verses as His love letter to you. Pray them and praise Him for the gift of His Son.

Honestly, friends, if you can only get numbers 6 and 7 right, you will maintain your peace, joy, and hope.

If you can keep Jesus the focus, read His Word (especially the Christmas Bible verses) everyday, and pray, you will find a new beautiful kind of joy during the holidays. The events, parties, and gifts will all be secondary, and the burdens they bring will release.

It’s because the truth of Christmas is that long ago on a still and dark night, Hope was born as a tiny baby in a manger. Jesus.

He was born, lived a sinless life among us, and then died at the hands of the very people He loved. Only His death wasn’t an end. Rather it was a beginning— a conquering of death so that we could live lives of victory and conquer death with eternal life in Him. He died so that we could always have hope.

A hope that keeps us centered.

Then. Now. And always.

Jesus’ …

hope is eternal.

love everlasting.

promises never fail.

peace surpasses all understanding.

Friends, Jesus is hope. He is what keeps us centered. The world and all of us within it simply cannot. People ebb and flow. We are human and fall short repeatedly. Things are only temporary and when they break, wither, or fall away, we can’t have our hope, or our peace locked in on them.

God is eternal and He gave His Son as a gift of hope that Christmas night so long ago.

So, this Christmas, my wish for you, is that you deepen your relationship with Christ. That you get to know Him as the One who loves you more than you can ever fathom. Below, I have listed 20 Christmas Bible verses to recenter your heart. May they remind you of the One who makes the impossible possible.

I wish each of you a very merry Christmas. May your hearts be filled with Jesus and your hope forever overflowing.
