A Prayer for Hope When Life Is Difficult

Prayer is one of my favorite topics to write about here in this space. I can’t imagine my life without bold prayers where I praise our awesome God, pour out all the contents of my heart, and petition on behalf of others.

The kind of prayers where I find hope.

Sometimes we just need help to find the words to pray. This is a prayer for hope that uses Scripture as its foundation. It is one I wrote at a time I needed hope. A prayer for hope is a part of the resources available with the #surrenderedheartsbook #adoption #hope #godslove

But, the truth is, I didn’t always have that kind of prayer life.

At one time, I didn’t grasp the depth of power we find in prayer. I prayed. However, they weren’t bold. Often, they were memorized and the depth of the words I repeated didn’t resound in my heart or my soul. Not that the beautiful prayers we find in the Word of God and the ones grounded in tradition aren’t powerful. Quite the opposite … it’s just at that time I didn’t understand the meaning behind the words.

I needed help – a place to start. Tuning into those praying around me and asking questions as I went, I began to learn more. I found those who prayed in a way that changed lives and they told me that I needed to start by learning what lay between the front and back cover of my Bible.

So I did.

It wasn’t easy at first. The words often seemed to ramble and not make a lot of sense. So I prayed for God to help me. I asked Him to make the Words come alive for me. To open my mind to what He wanted me to learn.

I also turned to books about prayer. Whether reading or writing, I’ve always been a word girl! My favorite was the Stormie Omartian series including The Power of a Praying Woman. (If you stop by my Amazon storefront, you’ll see many others I recommend as well)

Step by step, I grew. I became bolder … braver. I found the power in a prayer and began to know God more deeply. My relationship with Him flourished and my faith changed.

And today?

Today I write posts like this one because if you haven’t found the power of prayer yet, I want to step in the gap and be the one to help you just as someone stepped in to help me long ago.

Prayer is critical to living in victory.

I write about it often both here and in my book, but I was a lost young girl. I didn’t understand my worth as a child of God and made decisions that sent me into a vicious cycle of pain. Through prayer, I was healed. It took years, but without prayer, it never would have happened.

And then when our family followed the call to adopt, prayer became my lifeline to hope once again. Our adoption story wasn’t easy. It was filled with lots of grief and lots of joy. But for God and for prayer, we wouldn’t be the family we are today.

  1. Amen! This brings to mind the line from the hymn, Amazing Grace. “O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer”. Thanks for sharing, Lori. Blessings to you!

  2. Thank you, Lori. I need to learn bold prayer. Sometimes I feel as though my prayer life has become routine, half-hearted. This post speaks to me. It is the kick in the pants I needed to look at how I interact with God. It was exactly what I needed this morning.

  4. This is such a great post. I often get stuck in the routine of prayer and then realize how I’m not praying in a way that’s actually glorifying to God. What has helped me is to picture myself kneeling before God’s throne when I pray. That enables me to pray more seriously and more boldly! I love that you read through the Bible with the attitude of learning and prayer. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
