Prayer is one of my favorite topics to write about here in this space. I can’t imagine my life without bold prayers where I praise our awesome God, pour out all the contents of my heart, and petition on behalf of others.
The kind of prayers where I find hope.
But, the truth is, I didn’t always have that kind of prayer life.
At one time, I didn’t grasp the depth of power we find in a prayer. I prayed. However, they weren’t bold. Often they were memorized and the depth of the words I repeated didn’t resound in my heart nor my soul. Not that the beautiful prayers we find in the Word of God and the ones grounded in tradition aren’t powerful. Quite the opposite … it’s just at that time I didn’t understand the meaning behind the words.
I needed help – a place to start. Tuning into those praying around me and asking questions as I went, I began to learn more. I found those who prayed in a way that changed lives and they told me that I needed to start by learning what lay between the front and back cover of my Bible.
So I did.
It wasn’t easy at first. The words often seemed to ramble and not make a lot of sense. So I prayed for God to help me. I asked Him to make the Words come alive for me. To open my mind to what He wanted me to learn.
I also turned to books about prayer. Whether reading or writing, I’ve always been a word girl! My favorite was the Stormie Omartian series including The Power of a Praying Woman. (If you stop by my Amazon storefront, you’ll see many others I recommend as well)
Today I write posts like this one because if you haven’t found the power of prayer yet, I want to step in the gap and be the one to help you just as someone stepped in to help me long ago.We all need to start somewhere and prayer is no exception. Prayer is critical to living in victory.
I write about it often both here and in my book, but I was a lost young girl. I didn’t understand my worth as a child of God and made decisions that sent me into a vicious cycle of pain. Through prayer, I was healed. It took years, but without prayer, it never would have happened.
And then when our family followed the call to adopt, prayer became my lifeline to hope once again. Our adoption story wasn’t easy. It was filled with lots of grief and lots of joy. But for God and for prayer, we wouldn’t be the family we are today.
A Prayer for Hope
If you need a prayer to help you start – a prayer for hope when life is difficult, start here. This is one of the prayers I wrote as a free resource for my book Surrendered Hearts. I have a full resource packet of prayers, favorite Bible verses, and Scripture cards. The packet is largely geared toward the adoptive family, but honestly, anyone in need of hope can be encouraged by what you will find. Simply go to the Surrendered Hearts page and in the right margin you will find all the resources. Click on those you are interested in and download. It’s as easy as that!A #prayer for #hope when life is difficult #freeresources #livesurrendered Click To Tweet
As I leave you today, I pray this prayer gives you a place to start. I pray these words in unity with you – that you may find your hope in Christ and that you surrender your life to Him so that you may fully experience the abundance of His love.

It’s all about hope, so let’s be accountable in doing these 3 things for each other:
- First, share up to 2 blog post URLs resonating with the HOPE of Christ. The little things and the big that inspire us to lean into Jesus and let Him carry us through.
- #MomentsofHope is a place to give and get hope, so let’s encourage others in their efforts to share the hope of Jesus. Please don’t link and run! Instead, take a moment to encourage another!
- Please grab the #MomentsofHope button found HERE, or link back to me.
